When does a dental concern become a dental emergency?
Not all dental concerns are dental emergencies. However, once the pain is noticed coming from the mouth area, then it is very important to get the pain resolved as soon as possible and not just wait for the pain to just disappear – as it is likely that the issue can become a bigger problem.
- Some dental emergencies can include:
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Toothaches
- Sporting injuries to the mouth area
- The tooth being knocked out
- Wisdom teeth coming through
Remember that any dental pain isn’t normal, and it is best to visit or contact Lifelong Dental as soon as possible.
My tooth has been knocked out. What should I do?
The loss of an adult tooth is one of the most common dental emergencies. Unlike a baby tooth, there isn’t a spare tooth sitting there waiting to come through.
To ensure the saving and preserving of your natural teeth, it is best to follow the steps below:
- If the tooth has been knocked out, it is recommended to pick it up by the crown part (never by the roots to avoid contamination).
- Place the tooth in either water or milk. This process can also be used to remove any dirt if the tooth is dirty.
- Don’t scrub or remove any tissue fragments as it is very important to keep the tooth in the original condition.
- When travelling, it is best to either have the tooth in the patient’s mouth or in a cup of milk. This will help to preserve the condition of the tooth until reaching the dentist.
At Lifelong Dental, our entire team take pride in ensuring our patients maintain their natural teeth and optimal dental health for life. We therefore highly encourage our patients to get in contact with us as soon as you receive any dental pain or have any major dental concerns.
